I want to say I thought of doing something like this while doing a Sporcle quiz to name all the countries of the world but who knows. I just know that I wanted to make sure there were three letters overlapping in the names as two just felt kind of flimsy. I wasn't sure how to clue the theme answers so went with capital cities. When doing that I realized one countries capital city contained the name of the country so whoops. C'est la vie.

Loved this. Had to look up 25D's name cause I haven't seen that movie and legit didn't know, and got stuck on and had to look up the last letter of 33A/20D because I've forgotten so much Greek mythology. Love geography though, this is a great, creative theme!
